Peach tree from a seed?
Fruit tree seeds require some time for them to dry and the pit pulls away from the hull. If you are talking about eating a peach and then planting the seed, forget it. All peach trees are grafted, some on a flowering peach which has undesirable fruit. Planting from seed has a good chance of producing a edible fruit but sometimes not all that good.
Reply:In Australia we have some peaches we grew from seed. Most have smaller fruit than the fruit it came from originally, but very sweet and trees covered in fruit. The seedlings took longer to get fruit than the grafted trees by 1 to 2 years, but worth a try for fun if you have the room.
Our temperature gets down to -8 C in winter and up to 46 C in summer if that helps. If you grow one from seed and the fruit is not much quality, you could always graft some buds from someone elses named variety onto yours and have several types on one tree. Fun to try and fairly easy to do - read how on the net. Hope this helps. Rob
Oh, and as for how to grow from seed, we just ate the peaches, dried the stones for about a week, then planted them in pots with commercial potting mix. Keep moist, and some came up a couple of months later, others the following spring
Reply:i think you would need to plant it in a pot and keep it indoors until it grows big enough to plant outside. you will also need a heat lamp. ask your local nursery for specifics, they would also know if you are just wasting your time.
Reply:Dont waste your time you can buy a 3 yr old tree for about 30.00 at your local nursery. You can even get a dwarf that you can put in a pot. I usually thought that they were grafted anyhow....good luck
