When will my peach tree bear fruit?

I bought Sheila in mid-May from Home Depot. I have kept her very well-watered and she has so far grown about two feet, making her somewhere around 7 feet tall. I plan to fertilize her within the next week or so. Will my peach tree bloom next spring and produce fruit?

I think you should hold off on fertilizing her this late or she could die back or winter kill. Fertilizing especially with nitrates can spur growth when she should be going dormant for the season. Peaches bear fruit early from about 3-4yrs. which is about %26quot;Sheila%26#039;s%26quot; age. You should be the proud %26#039;papa%26#039; of a few peaches this time next year. RScott
Reply:Depends on the age of the tree. Some peaches won%26#039;t produde until 5 yr. old. But since most of the trees sold are nearly old enough look for fruit next summer. I would not fertilize this late in the year. The tree is going dormant soon. If you do feed, use a low nitrogen fertilizer so you don%26#039;t promote leaf growth this late. At 7%26#039; your tree is probably old enogh to have a crop next year. You may want to thin the fruit the first couple of years, I had trouble with branches breaking from the weight.
Reply:It should, as long as properly pollinated......birds and the bees you know.--And you don%26#039;t live in an extreme climate.
