We have one in our front yard. We got it last year from Lowes and now this year it%26#039;s starting to grow peaches on it. We already have like 5. Yeah you won%26#039;t have to wait like 10 years, maybe just 2.
Reply:Hi Ginger If you buy a standard sized tree it wil l grow to approx 15 feet. It will produce fruit at around 3 years old. You can get a dwarf variety which may reach 6 feet and would fruit approx 1 - 2 years. Sizes depend on pruning and fruiting depends on what age it is when you buy it. Ask before you buy. Reply:If you grew the tree from a pip, it would definitely take 10 years. But luckily modern gardeners have perfected this problem and the trees get grafted, and can bear fruit within 2 years of buying from the nursery. So it doesn´t depend on the size of the plant, more the age.
Reply:I think its more of how many cycles or winters it has gone through and if there is another tree which it can germinate from, usually 2-3 cycles before bearing fruit
Reply:Peach fruit on one year old wood, so buy a tree from your garden centre about 5 to 6ft in height and in about a 4 litre pot, and you wont have long to wait. You should get fruit the same year as buying. When planting the soil should be a deep well drained medium loam.

Peaches are all self fertile so only one tree need be planted, but it is advisable to hand pollinate the fully opened blossom with an artists brush, it is best to use a fine water spray before pollinating.

Peaches commonly set too many fruit-lets, resulting in a poor yield the following year, to avoid this thin out the fruits gradually to a final spacing of about 10 inch between fruits. The first year you should reduce the fruits to about 8 or 9 on the tree.

In mid -to late summer you should test the fruits for ripeness by lifting them gently , if ripe they will easily come away from the tree.

Pruning should be done in late spring, cutting back two yr old or older wood to induce new shoots about 12in long annually. Always cut above new shoots, after removing all dead wood and crossing branches.

Peach trees are best grown under glass or in plastic tunnels in the UK, my trees are in 8x6ft green houses.
