we bought a bonanza peach tree and the tag says it does grow peaches, but are they the type of peaches you eat?

Yes they are. We had a Bonanza Peach tree for many years, and my grandkids could not wait for the peaches. They were not big peaches but they were good. So when our tree finally died I went out bought and planted yet another, much to the happiness of all the grandkids -- enjoy your peach tree.
