we have a peached faced lovebird and named it peach, we thought is was a girl but were not sure? HELP ME????
How do you tell peach faced lovebirds male from female?
below is an article which might help somewhat.... lovebirds require a lot of handling to keep them tame, by the way. they can have an %26quot;attitude%26quot; and are very stubborn at times-- i used to hand raise them...
i hope you enjoy your pet!! take care.

Reply:Lovebirds aren%26#039;t sexually dimorphic. That means that you can%26#039;t tell their sex by just looking at them. Well, to keep things short, the only way to know for sure is to get a DNA test for like 35 dollars (depending where you go)
Reply:Well, the female lay eggs and the males dont.....lol.. I just had to say that.... it made me laugh.... But i aint sure about lovebirds..havent owned one yet....
Reply:Lovebirds are NOT sexually dimorphic which means that there is no visible difference between the sexes. Some lovebird breeders claim they are able to tell the difference between the sexes by feeling the pelvic bones (on the underside, between the bird%26#039;s legs). The males bones are narrower and more pointed and the females bones are set wider apart and a more rounded which allows them to pass eggs through the pelvic region.
I have raised lovebirds and have always tried to feel the difference but have never told a prospective purchaser that I knew the sex for certain becuase I personally don%26#039;t feel that much of a difference. You can give it a try though and give it your best guess.
Also, sometimes when a lovebird is of a specific type of mutation (creaminos, dutch blues, pieds or fawn colors), the breeder may know the sex of a baby simply because of genetics. If they know which parent threw which color, certain colors will only appear in certain sex chicks.
Personally, I think males tend to remain a bit nicer than the females as they get older but that is a personal observation. The one thing I%26#039;ll say for sure is if the bird ever lays an egg, you%26#039;ll know its a girl! Ha-Ha.
