Why is it so far to find a good peach these days?

When I was a kid in the late 60's, you got peaches when they were in season, generally in the summer. They were fuzzy and tender and oh so sweet.

These days, the peaches have less fuzz, but also a heck of a lot less flavor. Usually they are rock hard, but if you let them go soft, they're all mushy in side and again, have no flavor.

How can I get a good peach like the old days. I'm perfectly happy only getting them a couple of months a year, if they are good.

Boy I'm with you on that one, the last few times I have bought peaches, they have been awful, All mealy and no taste, They don't even smell like peaches. I live in CA, , so I don't know what's up. Maybe we need to move to Georgia.
Reply:Go to Johnson City, Texas. Right now. Killers, and baked pies on roadside. To die for.

Every damned thing is engineered to be picked by machines. Had any strawberries lately? Same crap. Hard, no flavor.

If you can find a good orchard, go pick your own, but you buy the entire tree of fruit. LOL Been there and done that.
Reply:Buy local peaches only.

the non-fuzzy, rock hard ones are shipped from California to the eastern states or from chile or somewhere. They're picked green so they ship well and flavor is sacrificed.

I live in Western NY and our peach season is short but the local ones are sweet and juicy.
