What/Who is a "Georgia Peach"?

I was watching the Colbert Report and Phil Gingrey said that he's "indeed a Georgia peach" (obviously, with some comedic reaction). What does that mean and why is it funny?

Thanks!

What/Who is a "Georgia Peach"?
Born and raised in Georgia -- normally refers to females.
Reply:As a woman who lives in Georgia. I think it is basically a woman who was born or raised in Georgia.
Reply:I'm not really sure but the other day i saw a movie called "The colour of love" about a white woman living in Georgia whose daughter died and left her with her black grandaughter. Anyway, this woman was in a club called the "Georgia Peaches", which consisted of some other wealthy, high society women whose cause was to help in charities and drink teas in the gardens of their expensive houses. I hope this helps!

The peach farm was somewhere SW of town - off State Road 200. The land was determined to be toxic and there should have been no development on that land, but no doubt there has been.

Couldn't find one in Ocala. FLORIDA PEACH CORP has three toxic sites in Belleview, FL. Could these be it?

Can anyone here help to tell the different between a PEACH blossom and a CHERRY blossom??? I did some image research on YAHOO but they look SIMILAR. I ordered PEACH blossom for the new year. Got the flowers today but on the box said CHERRY blossom. I called to the company but they closed for the rest of today. I want to know if they shipped me the PEACH blossom and mistakenly labeled CHERRY blossom. OR they SHIPPED me the CHERRY. I'm so upset at this point. Thank you in advance for all your help. Can a masked love bird be as tame as a peach-face?

recently my belovered peach-faced lovebird died.

in about 6 months i would like to hand raise another lovebird.

i am considering a black-masked lovebird, although i am not sure is they are as tame as a peach-face.

my peach face went every where with me (even the beach..haha) and after seeing how tame and affectionate my bird became, i am keen to get another.

i really like the black masked love bird, but are they as tame and affectionate?

after my experience with my other bird, i hope to buy a baby and hand raise it.

thanx for all of your help

Can a masked love bird be as tame as a peach-face?
In short the answer is yes. How ever a masked love bird will revert to wild behavior quicker than the peachfaced will. You must and I repeat must interact with the bird on a daily basis. No exeptions for at least the first 6 months after weaning. Then the masked will be tame and stay that way as long as you keep working with it. BUt he first 6 months are crucial.

I need ideas on how to keep birds from eating peaches growing on my peach tree.?

I have a peach tree in my backyard and was looking forward to getting some good peaches this year, but before they were ripe, birds and squirrels started eating them. What can i do?

I need ideas on how to keep birds from eating peaches growing on my peach tree.?
I had the same problem! Deer too, on occassion. I use bird netting to keep everyone away. You can't see that it's on the tree but it deters the hungry little theives. You can get it at the garden center. Of course don't use any sprays, since you want to eat the peaches, and not the chemicals.
Reply:Take a hunter safety course.

Buy a shotgun.

Buy a cookbook for cooking fowl and small rodent game.

Done.
Reply:dust the entire tree with sevin dust!it will keep them away as well as any unwanted insects!

you can also try hanging a wind chime or two on a couplke of branches!the noise from them should keep them away@!
Reply:there are fruit tree nets you can buy at nurseries or hardware stores. you throw it over the whole tree. birds still get to a bit of the fruit but not all of it. m
Reply:Tie spirettes of foil to the branches.

i like 7 up
Reply:Fanta, Sprite, Nehi, orange juice, grapefruit juice (if you like it), I would also enjoy it in a milk shake with fresh peaches sweetened with extra sugar! Make it with lots of ice. This will be soooo good in the summer. Use Ben %26amp; Jerry's Willie Nelson's Country Peach Cobbler ice cream for best results (in my opinion).

Why is it so far to find a good peach these days?

When I was a kid in the late 60's, you got peaches when they were in season, generally in the summer. They were fuzzy and tender and oh so sweet.

These days, the peaches have less fuzz, but also a heck of a lot less flavor. Usually they are rock hard, but if you let them go soft, they're all mushy in side and again, have no flavor.

How can I get a good peach like the old days. I'm perfectly happy only getting them a couple of months a year, if they are good.

Why is it so far to find a good peach these days?
Boy I'm with you on that one, the last few times I have bought peaches, they have been awful, All mealy and no taste, They don't even smell like peaches. I live in CA, , so I don't know what's up. Maybe we need to move to Georgia.
Reply:Go to Johnson City, Texas. Right now. Killers, and baked pies on roadside. To die for.

Every damned thing is engineered to be picked by machines. Had any strawberries lately? Same crap. Hard, no flavor.

If you can find a good orchard, go pick your own, but you buy the entire tree of fruit. LOL Been there and done that.
Reply:Buy local peaches only.

the non-fuzzy, rock hard ones are shipped from California to the eastern states or from chile or somewhere. They're picked green so they ship well and flavor is sacrificed.

I live in Western NY and our peach season is short but the local ones are sweet and juicy.

Koopa/Bowser, Princess Toadstool/Peach?

how come sometimes in Mario Bros. Koopa is known as Bowser and Princess Toadstool as Peach?

Koopa/Bowser, Princess Toadstool/Peach?
A lot of video game characters have/had different names in Japan. When the Sonic games started, the villain was called Eggman in Japan and Robotnik in America. I think the gaming industry realized somewhere around the Dreamcast era that it's less confusing all around when characters have the same names no matter which country they're in.
Reply:Bowser is King of the Koopas (from SMB for NES manual)

we know him as bowser, but his title is King Koopa (like george-president bush)

aslo he only goes by koopa in japan.. no bowser over there

her name is princess peach. once again we decided to change the name when it came over here. so princess toadstool it was..

but as the series became more and more popular, they tried to bring back peach (sounds better). after princess toadstool signed her name "peach" on that letter in mario 64, they have reverted to calling her peach

Do you have a receipe for fresh peach jam?

I have a lug of peaches and I'd like to make peach jam. Would you share your receipe with me? Thanks!

Do you have a receipe for fresh peach jam?
Fresh Peach Jam

Ingredients:

2 lbs slightly under ripe peaches

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

1 (2 ounce) box dry pectin

3-4 cups sugar, to taste

Steps:

1. Peel the peaches by dipping them into a pan of boiling water to loosen the skin, then immediately cool them by holding under cold water.

2. The skins will slip off, remove the pits.

3. In a large bowl, coarsely crush the peaches by hand or with a potato masher or pulse a few times in a food processor; you'll have about 5 cups of pulp.

4. Combine the peaches and lemon juice in a slow cooker, sprinkle with the pectin.

5. Let stand 20-30 minutes.

6. Stir in the sugar, cover and cook on LOW for 2 1/2 hours; stirring twice.

7. Remove the lid, turn the cooker to HIGH, and cook 2-3 hours longer, until the jam reaches the desired consistency.

8. Ladle the warm jam into clean spring-top glass jars (or use screw tops with new lids), let stand to cool.

9. Store, covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 months or spoon into small plastic storage containers and freeze up to 3 months.

Good luck and enjoy! =)
Reply:Peach Jam

5 lbs peaches

3 teaspoons lemon juice

5 cups sugar

# Wash, peel, pit and chop peaches-you want 10 cups.

# Place all ingredients in a large glass bowl and let stand for 1 hour.

# Transfer to a large stainless or enamel pot.

# Bring to a full boil.

# Boil for 25 minutes to reach the jell point-stir often and then constantly as the mixture nears the jell point.

# Remove and skim off foam.

# Ladle into clean hot jars leaving 1/4 inch head space.

# Process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
Reply:NO COOK PEACH FREEZER JAM

2 1/4 c. prepared peaches

2 tbsp. lemon juice

5 c. sugar

1 box Sure Jell

Peel and pit peaches. Grind or finely chop fruit. Measure 2 1/4 cups into large bowl. Add the lemon juice.

Mix 3/4 cup water and Sure Jell in small saucepan. Bring to a full boil and boil 1 minute, stirring constantly.

At once stir into fruit. Continue stirring 3 minutes. A few sugar crystals will remain.

Immediately ladle into containers, leaving 1/2" space at top. With a damp cloth, wipe any spills from containers. Cover at once with lids. Let stand at room temperature 24 hours.

Store jam in freezer. Small amounts may be covered and kept in the refrigerator.

Wash, scald and drain containers and lids, or use automatic dish washer with very hot rinse water.

12 fresh peaches - peeled, pitted and chopped

4 oranges

6 cups white sugar

Place the peaches into a large bowl. Scrub the oranges then chop into pieces - including the peel. This is easiest done in a food processor so you don't lose as much juice. Transfer to the bowl with the peaches. Stir in sugar, cover, and refrigerate overnight.

The next day, pour the entire contents of the bowl into a large pot. Bring to a simmer over low heat and cook for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Make sure the heat is low enough, or the jam will burn and stick to the bottom of the pot. This does not need to come to a rolling boil.

While the jam simmers, sterilize your jars in boiling water for at least 5 minutes, and keep hot. Prepare new lids according to the manufacturer's instructions. Ladle the jam into the jars, leaving 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims with a clean damp cloth or paper towel, and seal with lids and rings. Process according to guidelines suggested by your local extension.

Reply:Personally, I'd just follow the "sure fine" package directions and use a double boiler to prevent scorching the fruit. My granny was the expert and she always said to select peaches that were almost too ripe (just as they start to feel soft). She blanched her peaches and peeled the skin off by hand instead of peeling with a knife. You lose less fruit that way. Good luck.

1957 bathroom tile in peach colour..what colour scheme to go w/ it ??

Moving into a 1957 ranch home next week, one of the bathrooms has pastel peach tiles (in good shape) with an original sable/tan colored sink and toilet. The walls WERE painted off white. There's a full shower,a small amount of counter space and a window. What colour(s) would compliment this scheme until we have the $$$ to update it someday?? Help!! I don't want to spend too much just something to make it look less dated until then! Any thoughts?

1957 bathroom tile in peach colour..what colour scheme to go w/ it ??
Peach can be nicely accented with chocolate brown, many lighter shades of brown, tan, grey-beige, and even some taupe-like shades. Depending on the exact shade of the peach of your tiles, you should be able to bring in some green (celery shades). Patterns with pale colours with peach and sea shell motifs are quite easy to find on tiles, shower curtains, accessories, and even wall paper borders. You shouldn't have any trouble finding florals or plaids in those colours either. Good luck %26amp; enjoy the new house!
Reply:match the paint to the toilet and sink, use both peach and black accents, towels ,rugs and curtains.I loved my peach and black bathroom !

Why is there no fruit on my peach trees?

I have 1 peach tree and 2 apricot trees in my yard.

we've had them for almost 20 years

when my grandfather was alive we had peaches, and apricots off them every year, and a lot of them.

when he dies in 1999 the trees didnt produce anymore fruit

I have no idea what he did, he never used pesticides or fertilizers. He would be outside everyday tending to them in some way.

he says he did everything the way his father taught him, the old Italian way.

what can I do to get fruit on them.

Why is there no fruit on my peach trees?
any other peach trees in the area? you need others giving off pollen within a 2-3 mi radius, depending on how suburban/rural your area is. maybe someone local got rid of theirs or let it die. GET A 2ND PEACH TREE

also, you might not be feeding them right. natural fertilizers are available for fruit trees (besides miracle gro) but they're hard to find
Reply:Move to Italy!

Who says all consequences are bad?
Reply:bring your grandfather back to life..
Reply:Give them lots of love and care and make sure they get enough water and sunlight. Be sure to check on the trees everyday to know that they get the proper treatment.

Reply:Here's a great recipe... and if you want a unique and tasty ingredient, add a 1/2 cup fresh berries - your choice, but I love raspberries in it!

INGREDIENTS

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons white sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup shortening

1 egg

1/4 cup cold water

3 pounds fresh peaches - peeled, pitted, and sliced

1/4 cup lemon juice

3/4 cup orange juice

1/2 cup butter

2 cups white sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon white sugar

1 tablespoon butter, melted

DIRECTIONS

In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, 3 tablespoons sugar, and salt. Work in the shortening with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and cold water. Sprinkle over flour mixture, and work with hands to form dough into a ball. Chill 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Roll out half of dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Place in a 9x13 inch baking dish, covering bottom and halfway up sides. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.

In a large saucepan, mix the peaches, lemon juice, and orange juice. Add 1/2 cup butter, and cook over medium-low heat until butter is melted. In a mixing bowl, stir together 2 cups sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cornstarch; mix into peach mixture. Remove from heat, and pour into baked crust.

Roll remaining dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch. Cut into half-inch-wide strips. Weave strips into a lattice over peaches. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar, and drizzle with 1 tablespoon melted butter.

Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until top crust is golden brown.

Can daiquiri's (strawberry, peach, etc) be frozen overnight?

I need to make 4 different types of daiquiris (peach, strawberry, mint %26amp; pineapple) in fairly large quantities for a function. Is it ok to freeze, or at least refrigerate, them overnight? Would that effect the alcohol level somewhat? (which, considering it's for a bunch of uptight engineers, wouldn't be such a big problem!)

Can daiquiri's (strawberry, peach, etc) be frozen overnight?
if you freeze them overnite they will freeze solid. if you refridgerate them, they will melt. i don't know. maybe mix up the different mixes and then blend them all together tomorrow. or maybe if you have an ice cream maker you can freeze it like that??? good luck!!
Reply:in order to premix them you have to be able to keep them spinning like the machines at resturants, that prevents them from freezing solid- w/o those, you're stuck doing it all in one day...rental places do rent daiquiri machines.

Wedding Colors - periwinkle blue, peach, white and pink?
ooo I thought it was going to look like my Florida grandma's couch. But not at all, it's very elegant, classy and pretty. I think you made beautiful choices and an inspiration board is such a good idea, I NEVER thought of that.
Reply:i think that dark pink and light peach you chose are actually very nice together, as long as you don't go overboard with them and make the room a sea of peachy color.

that combo will look very lovely and calm, but since it's a summer wedding you'll want to go more with the bold colors like the dark pink and less with the peach so the sun won't wash out the color in your photographs (and in person, of course)
Reply:None. All typical bride colors. Unless thats what you want. Cornflower is a pretty color. It is a rich blue. Also it depends on where you are having your wedding and what time of the year. Good luck and best wishes. I am trying to plan my wedding and I can't find a color I want to use. Oh and I have nothing against the colors you named because peach is my favorite color
Reply:I like the periwinkle blue, the peach and the white, but I think it is too many colors. Take out the pink.

Should i shave my peach fuzz?

i don't want a mustache all but i keep on getting peach fuzz on my upper lip, I've shaved it once or twice and it seems to grow back in a week or so, what should i do?

Should i shave my peach fuzz?
you will notice after you shave it for a while the 'peach fuzz' will turn into stubble, then you will be able to be unshaven for a day or two and just say you like the 'rugged' look ;)
Reply:That will be going on for the rest of your life!

If you don't have the Brad Pitt (US actor) scruffy beard, then keep the peach fuzz shaved. It doesn't look very attractive to have stray hairs (fuzz) on different parts of your face.
Reply:Keep shaving it off. Women don't find fuzz attractive. Sorry, it's true. Just trying to tip you off, not put you down. Hugs!

I have a dark peach fuzz on top of my lips...?

Hey is it okay to have alittle bit of a brown like peach fuzz on top of my lips...I'm not worried abou tit i just wonder

I have a dark peach fuzz on top of my lips...?
All women have hair on their face. Usually it's so fine that it's not noticable. If you are okay with your peach fuzz then let it be. But if it bothers you pluck it or wax it off. Waxing doesn't hurt that much. I did my legs at home and was fine. I have real light, fine hairs above my lip. I tried plucking them out once but broke out in pimples. Now I just leave it alone.
Reply:Everyone does have a little peach fuzz. If its too dark or whatever then bleach it. Ive never had this problem but shaving it(not sure about waxing) will make it grow worse. Ive seen it happen to otehrs unfortunetly.

my fave kiley and momo scene was when 1) they hooked up together for the first time and kiley said, "lets snuggle" and they snuggled, and 2) when kiley gave momo a peach flower branch after toji broke up with her and he spent the whole day together taking her shopping and trying to cheer her up (this was vol 8 of the peach girl first series.)

Don't get me wrong I love the game Princess Peach it is really fun, a bit easy at times but really fun! Although the whole idea of being able to control her emotions seems a bit off.. possibly sexist... am I alone on this one or what?

I love apple and peach pies! Can I have your recipes?

I am learning to cook or should I say learning not to burn it too much! I love home baked pies with apple and peach being my most favorite. Tell me your favorite recipes for baking these deliscious goodies. Any pie flavors will do. Thank you.

P.S. Has anyone ever heard of pies made with oranges?

I love apple and peach pies! Can I have your recipes?
Deep-Dish Apple Pie

4 lb. Granny Smith apples, peeled, quartered, cored

1 lemon, zested

1 orange, zested

2 Tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 Tbsp. freshly squeezed orange juice

1/2 cup sugar, plus 1 tsp. to sprinkle on top

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp. kosher salt

3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

1/8 tsp. ground allspice

Doulbe pie crust

1 egg beaten with 1 Tbsp. water, for egg wash

Preheat the oven to 400º F.

Cut each apple quarter in thirds crosswise and combine in a bowl with the zests, juices, 1/2 cup sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.

Roll out half the pie dough and drape it over a 9- or 10-inch pie pan to extend about 1/2-inch over the rim. Don't stretch the dough; if it's too small, just put it back on the board and re-roll it.

Fill the pie with the apple mixture. Brush the edge of the bottom pie crust with the egg wash so the top crust will adhere. Top with the second crust and trim the edges to about 1-inch over the rim. Tuck the edge of the top crust under the edge of the bottom crust and crimp the 2 together with your fingers or a fork. Brush the entire top crust with the egg wash, sprinkle with 1 teaspoon sugar, and cut 4 or 5 slits.

Place the pie on a sheet pan and bake for 1 to 1 1/4 hours, or until the crust is browned and the juices begin to bubble out. Serve warm.

Reply:This is the easiest recipe for peach cobbler and VERY tasty:

1 stick butter

1 c sugar

1 c flour

1 ts baking powder

1 c milk

1 ts cinnamon

1 20 ounce can cut peaches - or use about 6 fresh ones (that's the best)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Melt butter in the bottom of a baking dish (13"x9" works well).

In a bowl, mix sugar, flour, and baking powder.

Slowly stir in the milk. You don't want any lumps!

Pour mixture over butter.

Carefully drop the peaches over the mixture and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Bake 1 hour and sprinkle with sugar as soon as it comes out of the over.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

NOTE: use Pam or butter to grease the pan first - makes cleanup very easy!!!
Reply:PEACH FRIED PIES WITH A CINNAMON CRUST

Ingredients needed:

* FILLING:

* 1 cup sugar

* 4 cups fresh (or frozen and thawed) peach slices, peeled

* 4 whole cloves

* 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

* 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

* 1/4 cup cornstarch

* Vanilla bean ice cream, for serving

* CRUST:

* 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting the work surface

* 3 tablespoons sugar, plus extra for sprinkling the pies

* 1 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

* 1/2 teaspoon salt

* 4 tablespoons cream cheese, diced and chilled

* 9 tablespoons solid vegetable shortening, chilled, plus more for frying

* 4 to 6 tablespoons ice water

In a large saucepan, over medium heat, combine the sugar, peach slices, cloves, and nutmeg. Mix until blended. Bring mixture to a boil; turn down heat and allow mixture to simmer until the peaches are softened, 20 to 25 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, remove the peaches from the saucepan and place in a small bowl. Reserve 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons of the peach liquid in the saucepan and discard the rest. Return the peaches to the saucepan.

In a small bowl, combine the lemon juice and the cornstarch. Whisk cornstarch mixture into the peach mixture, stirring until combined. Bring mixture to a boil and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to keep from sticking; mixture will be very thick. Transfer peach mixture to a clean bowl and chill for 1 hour, or until completely chilled.

To make the crust, sift together the flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add the chilled cream cheese and shortening and, working with your hands or a fork, mix until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add the cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time and gently mix until the dough begins to stick together. Form dough into a round disk, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Remove from the refrigerator and divide the dough into 8 equal portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each dough piece into a thin circle, about 6-inches in diameter. Place 1/4 cup of the chilled peach filling into the center of each dough round. Fold the dough over, making a half-moon shaped pastry, trim any excess dough leaving a 1/2-inch edge around the filling, and crimp the edges together with a fork. Chill pies for 30 minutes.

In a large heavy skillet, melt vegetable shortening to a depth of about 1/2-inch. Heat the shortening to 350 degrees F. Meanwhile, line a baking sheet with paper towels and sprinkle sugar lightly over the paper towels. Fry pies in skillet, in batches, until golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes on each side. Transfer to the paper towel-lined baking sheet and sprinkle the tops of the pies with sugar. Serve immediately with vanilla bean ice cream.

It is definitely one of the best apple pies I have ever had, and I rarely will even try them in restaurants. I've definitely been spoiled by this recipe!

Ingredients:

7 green Granny Smith apples

1 1/2 cup sugar, or more

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon, or a little more

pinch of salt

3 Tablespoons butter

2 Tablespoons flour

1 10" unbaked pie shell, plus pie crust for top

Set pie crust base in refrig.

In a bowl mix together 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup sugar (depends on how tart you like your pie) the flour, salt and cinnamon.

Peel apples, core then, cut into quarters, then slice each quarter into three or four slices, then cut each slice into small pieces, across the slice. Add to sugar mixture, stir periodically while you are cutting the apples up.

When done with apples, stir all together, to make sure apples are well coated. Dump and pack into the pie pan. Dot the top with pieces of butter.

Cover with the remaining crust, flute the edges, if desired (or seal with a fork), and cut in vents in the center of the crust. Sprinkle top crust with sugar.

Bake at 425°F for 10 to 15 minutes, reduce heat to 350°F and bake for about an hour. I can usually tell when it's done, because the filling is starting to bubble, runs out over the edge, messes up your oven bottom (if you don't have it on a pie saver) top is browned, and if you put a fork into the vent, the apples are really tender.

Cool first before cutting. Then reheat if wanted. That way the pectin and flour have a chance to set up and will not destroy the look of the pie when you cut it. Heck, do what you want - it still tastes the same.

Here's a GREAT pie crust recipe to go with this:

No Fail Pie Crust

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups flour

Cut butter into flour salt. Add sour cream and quickly form into a ball. Refrigerate for one hour. Roll out, place in pie shell. Freeze.

Easy Orange Pie

1 (8 ounce) container cream cheese, softened

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed

2 cups whipped topping

1 can mandarin oranges, drained

1 9-inch graham cracker crust

In a mixer bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy.

Gradually beat in sweetened milk and thawed orange juice until smooth.

Fold in whipped topping and oranges.

Pile into crust.

Chill 2 hours or until set.

Refrigerate leftovers
Reply:Just bake it in a pie crust for 30 minutes at 375. Mix the apples or peaches with sugar and Cinnamon first.
Reply:Peach Lattice Pie

For the pie shell:

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 tsp. salt

3/4 cup vegetable shortening

6 to 7 Tbs. cold water

For the filling:

6 cups peeled, pitted and sliced peaches

1 Tbs. fresh lemon juice (optional)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2/3 cup sugar

1/4 tsp. salt

Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

2 Tbs. unsalted butter

Directions:

Preheat an oven to 425°F.

To make the pie shell, in the bowl of a food processor, combine the flour, salt and shortening (in one lump). Process with 15 rapid off-on pulses; the mixture should look light and dry and resemble tiny, irregular flakes and crumbs. Add 4 Tbs. of the water and process again with 5 rapid off-on pulses. Add 2 Tbs. of the water and process with 3 rapid pulses. Stop and feel the dough (taking care not to touch the blade); it should be just damp enough to mass together. If necessary, add more water by teaspoonfuls, processing for just an instant after each addition. The total mixing time is less than 1 minute, and the dough should not form a ball; it should remain a rough, shaggy mass.

Cut the dough in half. On a floured surface, roll out one half into a 12-inch round, about 1/8 inch thick. Try to keep the dough as round as possible. Transfer the rolled-out pastry to a 9-inch pie dish. Roll out the pastry for the top crust and cut it into strips about 3/4 inch wide; set aside.

To make the filling, place the peaches in a large bowl. Sprinkle with the lemon juice and toss to coat well. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, salt and nutmeg. Add to the peaches and toss to combine. Pile the fruit mixture into the pastry-lined pan and dot with bits of the butter.

To create the woven lattice top, use the longer pastry strips near the center of the pie and the shorter ones near the edges. Cross the two longest strips over the center of the filled pie. Place a second long strip over the top cross strip. Fold back every other strip onto itself and lay a cross strip in place, then return folded-back strips to their original position. Continue weaving in this fashion, working from the center of the pie toward the edges, until all the strips are used. Trim and flute the edges decoratively with your thumb.

Bake for 25 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350°F and bake until the juices are bubbling and the top is browned, about 25 minutes more. Makes one 9-inch pie; serves 8.
Reply:ingredients

2 1/2 cups plus 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons granulated sugar

2 sticks (8 ounces) cold unsalted butter, cut into tablespoons

1/2 cup cold solid vegetable shortening

Ice water

4 1/2 pounds Golden Delicious apples

Juice of 1 large lemon

1 cup packed dark brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

2 teaspoons milk

directions

1. MAKE THE DOUGH: In a food processor, pulse 2 1/2 cups of the flour with the salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Add 8 tablespoons of the butter and the shortening; pulse until the mixture resembles small peas. Add 1/3 cup of ice water and pulse until evenly moistened. Squeeze some of the mixture with your hand; it should come together. If it crumbles, add 1 tablespoon of ice water and pulse again.

Turn the dough out onto a work surface and gently press with the heel of your hand, then gather into a ball with a few quick strokes. Divide in half and form into disks. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or for up to 2 days.

On a lightly floured surface, roll 1 disk into a 13-inch round 1/8 inch thick. Fit the round into a 9-inch glass pie plate and trim the overhang to 1/2 inch. Refrigerate the pie shell. Roll out the second disk into a 12-inch round 1/8 inch thick; transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate.

4. MEANWHILE, MAKE THE FILLING: Peel, halve and core the apples, then cut into 3/4-inch wedges and toss with the lemon juice in a large bowl. In a 12-inch skillet, melt the remaining 8 tablespoons of butter over low heat; stir in the brown sugar. Add the apples and turn to coat. Increase the heat to high and cook, turning occasionally, until most of the wedges are tender but not mushy, 15 minutes. Do not overcook.

Immediately scoop the apples and their juices onto a rimmed baking sheet. Sprinkle the remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons of flour and the cinnamon over them and toss until the flour disappears. Place the baking sheet on a wire rack and let the apples cool to room temperature, 40 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 450°. Arrange the apples in the pie shell; drizzle the juices over them. Moisten the pie rim with a wet pastry brush. Center the top crust over the apples and press the rim to seal. Using scissors, trim the top crust to a 1/2-inch overhang, then fold it under and crimp. Dissolve the remaining 1 teaspoon of sugar in the milk and lightly brush the top of the pie. Pierce several holes in the top of the pie with a fork.

Bake the pie for 25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. If the crust begins to brown too quickly, cover the rim with foil. Reduce the heat to 375° and bake for 20 minutes longer, or until you can hear the apple pie filling bubbling.

Transfer the apple pie to a wire rack and let cool for at least 1 hour before cutting into wedges and serving.

I need a good contrast color for peach tile in a bathroom?

I am tired of the peach ceramic tile (old and dated, but need to get through another 5 or so years) I looked into painting the tile but it looks like it will be a MAJOR pain and the results probably won't be great. SO, right now, the floor and part of the walls are peach. What wall space I do have (the top half of the room and ceiling) is white with white trim, the shower curtain I made and is a sage green plaid with a tiny hint of peachy salmon running through it (good contrast but getting tired of it.) I also have a sage throw rug. I am looking to totally get rid of the white walls and go with a new color scheme if I can find something that will give the room a whole new look. I can sew so I can make the shower curtain and drapes/curtains. Any good and SERIOUS ideas? I am looking for total change here! TIA!

I need a good contrast color for peach tile in a bathroom?
I would go with chocolate brown. It would make the bathroom nice and warm, and it's a very hip color right now. If that doesn't sound appealing to you, you could consider a deep teal (like the color on mallard ducks), a warm plum purple, or even black.

Best of luck with your project!
Reply:Well, I like hunter green with peach, but you've already used the sage, so I suggest royal blue. It can be a bit much to paint the whole wall a darker color and it makes the room smaller. A wallpaper with peach/blue/white would give you some interest, and you could use the main blue color for a shower curtain and/or towels.

We did a very small half-bath with cream background wallpaper with very small black and brown triangles and black rugs, toilet seat cover and hand towels. We used wood toilet seat and towel racks with a wood medicine cabinet. I turned out very well, and the colors weren't too overpowering.

Wallpaper is a good alternative to paint and bathrooms aren't too big to do it yourself. Have fun!
Reply:chocolate brown, white and less peach stuff
Reply:an olive green or tan
Reply:go to paint store website and look for contrasting colors.
Reply:Blue violet is the complementary color to peach. How about going in that direction. Don't paint the tile, if it is on the floor it may not hold up to general use. you could have a bigger mess on your feet :) Use a soft blue violet color with the white trim. POP! Tie this new vibrant color in with new rug and bathroom accessories and shower curtain. Since you made it see what kind of gorgeous soft violet fabric you can find with a very soft peach almost cream accent fabric.

If violet is too much you could go more toward the chocolate family. Use a warm beige for the wall with White trim and chocolate accessories and baskets. A show curtain with choc and cream. Accent color could be your sage green. Just hints of it here and there.

Good luck!
Reply:well i love green, so my first thought would have been the green accents that you did already. You could choose another shade of green- new curtains and rug could dramatically change the room. Or teal, blue, brown, or purple are other color suggestions.

As for the walls, it is hard to say which color without knowing what shade of peach. I'm assuming if the tiles are old and out-dated it is a bright, in-your-face type of peach. If that is the case, I would definitely stay away from pinks, reds, oranges, and some shades of yellow. I wouldn't go with anything too dark or too soft. Stay with a medium tone. I would also get rid of the white on white. It is too stark and your eyes have nowhere to go but to the other colors in the room.

If you aren't a fan of the peach, do something that will draw your attention away from it. Don't just paint the walls, but design them. If you want something simple and easy, go for texture with either sponge painting or wallpaper. If you want something a little more intense, try a mural or fabric treating (this can get way complicated though). For something not too easy, not too hard, try stenciling a design. (this is my personal favorite).

Here are two ideas:

My cousin wanted a contrast to the 70s hot pink tile in her new apartment. First we painted the walls a matte off white. Then we painted vertical stripes in the same off white but with a glossy finish (the light hits it a different way and offers a unique and subtle flare). We stenciled fleur-di-lies in blues and purples on the matte strips.

My mother has yellow tiles in her bathroom. I stenciled a vertical pattern of flowers using blues, purples, and pinks. I added in green for the leaves and stems. I matched the yellow from the tiles for just the center of some of the flowers.

This way people now look up and away from the tile at something else.
Reply:Paint the walls a light aqua...in the same tone that the peach tiles are in. Hang a white shower curtain and trim it out turquoise ribbon that creates a border on the shower curtain. Turquoise colored rugs. Big white fluffy towels with peach and aqua hand towels and washcloths.

Reply:I bet the sage green looked nice. I was going to suggest a pale green, but you're probably tired of green. Depending on the size of your bath; a taupe wall with white trim might look good or maybe just a lighter; almost a mint green, again with white trim. I know that Sherwin-Williams carries a line of paint that adds some very muted texture shades to walls which might just pull your attention away from the tile.

Bugs eating plum and peach trees?

what can I do? They are the bugs called June bugs? They hatch on the plum trees (or so it seems) then when bigger move to eating the peach tree.

Bugs eating plum and peach trees?
June bugs and other beatles come from grubs in your turfgrass...treat the tree for insects with a fruit tree rated insecticide or horticultural oil, then treat your turf with grub b gone to prevent the problem next year.

Reply:Spray the trees with an insecticide before the bugs hatch. go to a good home and garden centre and ask them. They will be familiar with your problem in your area and will give better advice than I can.
Reply:go to your local bomgaars and buy yourself a product called 8, it is for fruit trees. I used it on my peach, apple and pear trees it works great.
Reply:You need to spray the tree every 2 weeks or so with this bug killer called "Seven". Get yourself a sprayer that attaches to your garden hose. You mix the "Seven" with water in the sprayer attachment and hose the entire tree ( except the trunk of course). It's safe for humans but will kill all of the bugs attacking the tree.

How much does a peach weigh?

I'm doing a project for my nutrition class and I need to know the approximate weight of a medium sized peach in order to do other calculations I need. Does 8 ounces seem about right? By the way, "medium" refers to the size of a tennis ball.

Reply:It will vary on where they are grown and how much water they get. It also depends on what type of peach it is

Can I take a peach cobbler on an airplane?

I want to bake a peach cobbler for Thankgiving and take to Az.

Can I take a peach cobbler on an airplane?
I would htink as long as you put it in a clear Pyrex pan that can go thru the xray machine, it would be fine.

But... Wouldn't it be easier just to pack ingrients and make it there?
Reply:I would say not cuz its a food item and ithas fruit in it and partial liquid
Reply:No, I'm sure they wouldn't let you. With the whole crack down on passengers, you can't even take tooth paste or shaving cream! I doubt they would let you take a peach cobbler. Of course you could send it in your suitcase. Although that is a mess just waiting to be made. They aren't very careful with the packages they send into the cargo hold.

I would advise making it when you get to Arizona.
Reply:You would have to check it in baggage claim. They wouldnt let me take my coffee through security. No liqiuds of any kind.
Reply:Hmmmm.... I don't think they would let you. What if you made the peach cobbler when you get to the house in az? Mmmm.... Peach cobblers are good.... :)
Reply:YES!!! just be very careful!!

How should I get rid of unwanted peach fuzz on my face?

I have it ALL over my face. It is esspecially noticable when I'm in the sun. What hair removal method should I use? Is there any home remedy that I should do? Or anyway to minimize the appearance of my peach fuzz? My peach fuzz is light like blonde colored and my skin is dark- so bleach won't work.

How should I get rid of unwanted peach fuzz on my face?
Best choices are to either use a chemical depilatory such as Nair or have it waxed by a professional.

Personally, I would have it waxed.

Nair is much like shaving in the fact that it only removes the hair at the surface of the skin not by the root as waxing does. This means the hair will grow back much faster, you will notice stubble in just a few days.
Reply:there is nair hair remover for the face. do not shave it. or you can use any other hair remover cream made for the face they all work just about the same, just read the directions on the box/tube.
Reply:It's called a razor...
Reply:Wax ought to do the job, or just use tape to pull the hairs.
Reply:My friend thread it, but it hurts like hell

I wish to choose either peach and cream or cream and lilac as my wedding colours but I need to know what these colours mean so that I would make a choice that depicts our feelings towards the relationship.

What do the colours peach, lilac and cream signify?
Pastel overload.
Reply:peach and cream is delicious like a creamcicle... yummy and fresh

lilac and cream is flowery and reminds me of my grandmother...

Reply:pick the ones you like more, no matter what they mean.

enjoy every minute of your wedding, be very happy because of it.

CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes for it, thinking it will be FOREVER!!!!!
Reply:I don't think the colors you choose have a particular meaning just that you like them and maybe they go with the season.....my favorite color is peach and mint green but since it was a fall wedding pastels didn't seem right so went with more of a soft coral and sage green
Reply:those are all pastel colors. there really isn't a "meaning" associated in traditional american weddings... the colors picked are only picked based upon preference...
Reply:Weddings or Easter.

Is it OK to cut down a peach tree if it gives NO peaches but has green leaves???

it has been going on for 8 yrs and today my dad cut it, i was really sad, so is it ok to cut a tree when it has no fruits but still has green leaves every spring??

By the way it has given a "little baby peach tree" :)

Is it OK to cut down a peach tree if it gives NO peaches but has green leaves???
That's sad. My grandfather wanted to cut down one of our trees because, as he said, "it wasn't doing anything." It had green leaves, but was a little sickly.

My mother told him he couldn't cut down the tree, so he started watering it instead. The next summer it flowered and gave us more plums than we could eat. We hadn't even known it was a fruit tree. It still gives us plums every year now.
