I bought an Early Elberta Peach Tree in a pot from Wal Mart two weeks ago. When I planted it, all the soil fell away from the roots, so I am guessing it was a bareroot tree that they just stuck in the pot recently. I live in Utah. Although it is still cold outside, my other fruit trees that I bought this year (apple and cherry) already have leaves on them. Is my peach tree still dormant? Is it dead? Should I try and get my money back? Is it normal for peach trees to %26quot;sprout%26quot; their leaves later? It%26#039;s been two weeks since I planted is, and the branches are still green inside.
When will my newly planted peach tree get leaves?
Peaches love warmer weather so they should start up a little later for you. apple and cherry like a cold snap and will put out new growth sooner than say , peach, apricot or plum.
Reply:If it%26#039;s still cold, you should wait a couple of weeks.. hope for the best.
If you want to see if it%26#039;s alive, on one of the ends of a branch, scrape back the bark. Just a very small area. If it%26#039;s alive, you should see a bright green layer just under the bark. If it%26#039;s not green, you likely have a dead specimen.
I think Wal-Mart guarantees their trees.. check with the department manager.
You could also see if the store has any more of the same trees and if they have leafed out..
