Peach faced love bird?

i do have a peach faced love bird the other one is yellow and the other is green are they in similar type. what is the best time to breed them? what are the signs that they are ready to breed?

Peach faced love bird?
First you need to make sure you have a male and female. Peach face lovebirds cannot be visually sexed and behaviors aren%26#039;t always an indicator, and pelvic sexing is a joke. Usually a DNA test or having them lay eggs that are fertile are the only way to know if you have a male and female (unless you are breeding for a sex linked color).

Besides that- The best time to breed is after they are a year old. They will be fully grown and potentially mature enough to raise the young. You should make sure before you breed that they have been on a steady diet of very nutritious food (good quality pellets, fresh foods, cuttle bone, mineral/vitamin block etc..). I would wait until next spring, let them get their nutrient stores up all winter, then allow them nesting material and a nest box and see if they do anything.

Signs they are ready to breed will be--- you can catch them mating (my birds are not shy and go at it right in the middle of the living room at times), the male will feed the female, they will be looking for material to shred for nesting, especially the female. When you notice those behaviors, give them a nest box with some soft bedding inside that totally covers the bottom (I like carefresh small animal bedding) and things for them to shred to make their own nest inside. They%26#039;ll either use it or not.

If they do lay eggs the normal clutch size is 4-6 eggs, so if you end up with 12 eggs, you can pretty much assume you have 2 females. No eggs- 2 males. They lay roughly 10 days after mating if you happen to see them doing that. The eggs are then incubated for roughly 21 days after the start of incubation. They usually don%26#039;t start to incubate though until after 2-3 eggs have been laid. If you want to check the eggs you can candle them to see if they are fertile after about a week. By then there should be veins and an embryo visible inside the egg. There are lots of sites that can walk you through candling an egg. The most important thing is make it quick and keep your hands clean.

If they are fertile you can potentially have little lovebird chicks in roughly a months time. There are lots of variables that happen while the chicks are developing inside the eggs (temperature, movement, humidity) that may result in the egg not developing or stopping development half way through so don%26#039;t be surprised if out of 5 eggs, only 2 hatch.

Once hatched the parents should take care of them and do fine feeding. You should check periodically the first day to make sure the parents are feeding the chicks (check to see if there is food in their crops) and if not be ready to handfeed. Which is a TON of work. But that%26#039;s a whole different subject and there are plenty of sites explaining it, and you can contact a breeder in your area to show you how if it comes down to it.
Reply:when they start preening each other and bathing together. the mother may start to build little nests and take extra feathers to make a soft little home for the eggs
